Chateau Maroon

Chateau Maroon is a community of apartments for active, independent seniors. The five building complex is conveniently located at 512 Green Street in Starkville.

All of the apartments have two bedrooms and one bath and are approximately 750 square feet. Included in the rent are all water charges and a basic TV cable package.

There is a social room/beauty salon/laundry on the premises. This room is also used for weekly prayer meetings, parties, and family reunions.

Chateau Maroon is subsidized by USDA Rural Development (formerly Farmers Home Administration) and is operated as a Type 515 complex.  The complex is managed strictly according to the applicable Rural Development regulations. The regulations state that the apartments are reserved for low and moderate income elderly and/or disabled persons. An elderly person is defined as anyone who is at least 62 years old. The income limits are set by HUD and are changed periodically. Click here to view the HUD income limits website.

On average, about three units a year come available. These are filled from a waiting list that is maintained according to the Rural Development regulations.  There is no charge, and no obligation to submit an application. An application can be downloaded here.  Once completed, the application can be faxed to (662) 323-2020, dropped off at our office at 302 Spring Street, or mailed to our office: Chateau Maroon Office, 512 Green Street, Starkville, MS 39759.

The rents are based on the income of the tenants.  Once we have a completed application, we are able to confirm eligibility for the program, and we are also able to estimate what the monthly rent would be.  In general, the rents are based on the premise that you should pay 30% of your adjusted income for rent and utilities.

There are no fully handicapped accessible apartments in the project, however we will make reasonable accommodations for handicapped or disabled tenants.
